Greetings MUSD Community,
I'm excited to share a few updates about the incredible happenings across MUSD. To begin, I want to extend heartfelt appreciation to our many school partners whose unwavering support continues to uplift our students, educators, and community.

MEF’s Continued Commitment to Literacy and Libraries

For the 2025–2026 school year, the Martinez Education Foundation (MEF) has proudly committed Read-A-Thon funds to maintain current staffing levels across all district libraries—ensuring students continue to benefit from consistent access to library resources and support.
In addition, MEF awarded a $2,000 grant to each elementary school library specifically for new books. We’re thrilled to share that most of these orders have already been fulfilled, and students are beginning to enjoy the fresh additions to their collections.
Finally, MEF has allocated over $25,000 to fully fund the district’s early literacy and phonics program, Sonday. This program has been a cornerstone of literacy instruction across multiple sites for several years. By assuming this cost, MEF has effectively freed up funds in the district’s budget, allowing for greater flexibility in supporting other educational priorities.

Kiwanis: Championing Literacy and Student Safety

Kiwanis remains a vital ally to MUSD, exemplifying their dedication through impactful initiatives. From donating hundreds of books to early primary grade students to purchasing a golf cart for Alhambra High School ensuring safe transport for athletes during medical emergencies their support is both heartfelt and practical. We deeply appreciate their longstanding commitment to our students.

Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council: Building Career Pathways

The Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council continues to invest in our students’ futures by promoting the MC3 Certificate program. This nationally recognized credential prepares students for entry-level positions in the trades and opens doors to long-term career advancement. Their efforts directly align with our goal to increase the percentage of students graduating college and career ready.

Together, these organizations are helping us create a stronger, more supportive educational environment—one where every student has the tools to meet their academic goals.
Our PTAs across the District have made a lasting impact through their unwavering support for our schools. Their continued provision of educational tools and supplies plays a vital role in expanding student access to essential resources, helping to create more equitable and enriching learning environments.
I would be remiss if I did not add that the dedication and tireless efforts of our PTA volunteers go far beyond material support. Their presence at school events, advocacy for student needs, and commitment to building strong school communities are the heart of what makes our district thrive.
Whether through collaborative programs, shared resources, or enthusiastic participation in school events, your contributions make a lasting impact. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey!

CalFresh & Food Assistance in Martinez

Per the State of California, approximately 5.5 million residents, including nearly 2 million children, rely on $1.1 billion in monthly SNAP benefits, known as CalFresh. These benefits are distributed via EBT cards, which are reloaded monthly for eligible recipients to help pay for groceries at supermarkets and farmers markets.
The Martinez Unified School District (MUSD) proudly promotes and supports food assistance programs that serve the greater Martinez community.
